Knights, pawns, kings and queens will be riding the rails in San Angelo, as the first Chess on the Rails Open Tournament comes to town Saturday, Feb. 4. The US Chess Federation-sanctioned tournament at the Railway Museum of San Angelo is organized by chess coach Chase Ross of Concho Chess Academy. Entry is not restricted but is capped at 40 players. Please register before the event.
The tournament will have five rounds and the entry fee is $20 per person. Awards and trophies will be presented for first through third places following the end of the last round.
Admission to watch the chess tournament is free at the Railway Museum of San Angelo at 703 S. Chadbourne; tours of the museum are $3-5. For information and registration, contact Chase Ross, Concho Chess Academy, concho.chess@gmail.com, 925-918-2275.
