Time:  9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join the ladies of Fort Concho as they guide you through the “Evolution of a Lady.” Ladies will be set up by time frames. The 1860s will be in an officers’ camp on our parade ground, the 1870s in our Officers’ Quarters 6, and the 1880s in our Officers’ Quarters 1.
When the Fourth Cavalry established the post, officers, soldiers, laundresses, and the occasional officer’s wife who joined her husband on the journey lived in canvas tents, much like the ones seen during Christmas at Old Fort Concho. As the post grew, families and military personnel moved into permanent buildings. By the late 1870s, Fort Concho had transitioned into a supply post surrounded by a budding community. Eventually, as the soldiers marched away for the last time in 1889, the railroad arrived, the post had already begun showing signs of age for its use over the last 22 years, and it was setting the stage for San Angelo to grow into the vibrant city we know today.
The ladies will highlight these changes, showcasing fashion trends, societal norms, and the ways life transformed with the innovations and cultural shifts of the western frontier through their different displays.
This special program will be open on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 9 AM to 5 PM. We hope to see you there!
